ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving an uncooperative baby sitter, a youth vandal, fraudulent business checks, a locker room theft and a suspicious man, among others. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Uncooperative baby sitter A baby sitter and two youths were riding scooters about 1 a.m. Sunday at Walnut and Grantley. The adult refused to provide any information to police, was uncooperative, and appeared to be intoxicated. The youths were returned home and placed in the care of a responsible adult. The state Department of Children and Family Services was notified. Youth vandal Two people damaged an inflatable Christmas decoration in front of a house about 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of East Oneida Avenue. A suspect – described as a white male, 14 to 16 years old and wearing no shirt – was seen on surveillance video. He ran and jumped on the inflatable decoration. The person then threw two eggs at the house. The other person appeared to be filming the incident. The case is pending an investigation. Giving up rifle A resident in the 300 block of Walnut Street surrendered a .22-caliber rifle that he no longer wanted about 10 a.m. Thursday at the police station. The rifle was submitted to the property officer for destruction. Fraudulent business checks Elmhurst Extended Care Center nursing home, 200 Lake St., told police Nov. 26 that five business checks were fraudulently created and cashed. An investigation is pending. Locker room theft An unattended cellphone and Bluetooth headphone were stolen between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Thursday at YMCA, 211 W. First St. They were taken from a counter in the men's locker room. Fugitive driver An officer tried to stop a car with heavily tinted windows and expired registration about 11 p.m. Thursday at Route 83 and St. Charles Road. The driver took a U-turn and sped away from the officer. Gift card scam A resident in the 200 block of East May Street received a message on her computer Thursday that told her of fraudulent activity on her credit card account. The message indicated she needed to buy gift cards to resolve the issue. The victim complied and provided the gift card numbers to the suspect. Converters stolen A catalytic converter was stolen from a car on Thursday or Friday at Courtyard by Marriott, 370 N. Route 83. Another converter was stolen from a car between 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Friday in the faculty parking lot at York High School, 355 S. Charles Road. The case is pending an investigation. Other converters were stolen 1) between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday in the rear parking lot at Whole Foods market, 215 Route 83. 2) between Wednesday and Friday at R&R Logistics, 909 Route 83. 3) shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of West Fullerton Avenue while it was parked in the back of a business. Surveillance video showed a white Dodge Charger stopped next to the victim's vehicle. The case is pending in investigation. 4) about 4 p.m. Saturday at Park Place senior living facility, 1200 S. Prospect Ave. Intruder A resident in the 400 block of Argyle Avenue told police Saturday that her ex-husband entered her apartment through an unsecured window Aug. 29. She did not want to sign a complaint, but asked that the incident be documented. Couches dumped Two couches were dumped between 3 p.m. Thursday and 12:30 p.m. Saturday along the west ridge line of the parking lot at Ray Graham Association at Madison and Berkley. The case is pending an investigation. Christmas light damage A resident in the 100 block of North Maple Avenue reported that someone cut her Christmas lights on three separate occasions between Nov. 28 and Dec. 3. Retail theft A person stole two lighters about 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Old Havana Cigar Shop, 189 E. Butterfield Road. The suspect purchased cigarettes and removed the lighters while the clerk was not looking. The case is pending an investigation. The store did not wish to sign a complaint, but requested the suspect be served with a no-trespass notice. Suspicious man A man was seen pulling on a resident's front door and the door of a car in the driveway about 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of South Spring Road. The man was described as black, 50 years old, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8, having a beard, carrying a white plastic bag, and wearing a black zipper-style hooded jacket and dark pants.
