CHICAGO — The police department no longer has the highest percentage of vaccine status-reporting scofflaws.
As of Monday, about 89 percent of police employees reported their coronavirus vaccine status as required under a City Hall mandate.
That's better than the 84 percent of City Council workers who have reported whether they have received jabs. About 95 percent of those employees said they have been fully vaccinated, according to city data.
Under Mayor Lori Lightfoot's vaccine mandate, all city employees have until Dec. 31 to be either fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption.
So far, about 22 percent of 12,540 police department employees, and 23 percent of 4,711 fire department employees said they have not been vaccinated, city data shows.
In all, about 95 percent of city workers have reported their vaccine status. Nearly 82 percent of those who reported said they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
