Shootout In North Charlotte Turns Deadly, Results In Police Chase

CHARLOTTE, NC — Detectives with CMPD are investigating a gunshot death in the 8600 block of Swank Place in North Charlotte. Shortly after midnight, police were called to the area where they discovered a man inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. Officers were also alerted to a car that sped away from the scene and were able to go after it, according to CMPD. After a brief chase, the car crashed into a pole and police found two people inside. One of them also had gunshot wounds and life-threatening injuries. Both were taken to Atrium Main. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. Detective Washington is the lead detective assigned to this case.
