BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Arraignment for Aariel Maynor, the man arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Jacqueline Avant, was postponed for a second day because of an unspecified medical condition. Maynor, 29, was originally scheduled for arraignment Tuesday, but the proceeding was pushed back to Wednesday. Maynor, of Los Angeles, was charged with one count each of murder, attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of residential burglary with a person present, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Maynor was arrested after he was sent to a local hospital with a bullet wound on his foot, Beverly Hills police said. A man shot himself in the foot while breaking into a Hollywood residence hours after Avant was shot, police said. The City of Beverly Hills will honor Avant at Tuesday's City Council meeting, where police Chief Mark Stainbrook will offer an update on community safety. The meeting will take place virtually at 7 p.m. The Avant family has been an important part of our BH community for more than half the City's existence. Community is like an extension of family. While Jacqueline's horrific murder is the worst nightmare possible for the Avant family, it is also a tragedy for all our Community. pic.twitter.com/HjKYu50H6T— John Mirisch (@JohnMirisch) December 2, 2021 Avant was the mother-in-law of Ted Sarandos, Netflix's CEO. The Avant and Sarandos family asked the public to send donations to the MLK Health and Wellness Community Development Corp. on behalf of the Jacqueline Avant Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers or gifts. The fund is helping to build the MLK Children's Center in Watts, according to the family. The MLK Health and Wellness Community Development Corp. focuses on creating comprehensive treatment programs for those struggling with mental illness, substance use and homelessness, according to the corporation's website. Avant was previously the president of a program called the Neighbors of Watts, which supported children in South Los Angeles, according to CBS Los Angeles. She held many other roles in her local community, including serving on the board of the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and the board of directors of the University of California, Los Angeles' International Student Center. "The Avant family's contribution to the world of entertainment and to better communities across Los Angeles are unmatched. There are no words to express our profound sorrow for this immense loss for Jacqueline's husband Clarence, their children and the entire Avant family," Stainbrook said at a news conference last week.
