Threats Reported At Smithtown Schools; Police Investigating

SMITHTOWN, NY — Suffolk police on Tuesday investigated a potential threat made at Great Hollow Middle School in Smithtown. An employee of the middle school reported on Monday that a student heard another student make a comment that was perceived as a threat, police said. Police said there was no credible threat after officers showed up at the school on Tuesday. A Smithtown High School West student on Sunday reported hearing another student make a threat of violence regarding the school, police said. Officers went to the high school on Monday, when they spoke with students and staff, police said. Officers searched multiple locations and did not find any weapons, police said. Crime section officers went to both Smithtown High School West and Smithtown High School East on Tuesday after being told students were continuing to share the threat on social media. Officers are asking anyone with information to call the Fourth Precinct Crime Section at 631-854-8426. A threat was also reported regarding Oregon Middle School in Medford, police said.
