TUSCALOOSA, AL — As the cliché goes, a dog is a man's best friend. But when a dedicated pooch enters the law enforcement ranks and spends a career serving others, the phrase just falls short of doing proper justice. The new installation honors the 43 past and present K9 partners that have served the county. The memorial features detailed wood-carvings as its centerpiece, depicting three breeds of dogs traditionally used in law enforcement operations: A German Shepherd, a bloodhound and a Labrador retriever. "This memorial is dedicated to the K9 partners of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office who have served the citizens of this county faithfully and courageously throughout the years," a plaque inscription on the memorials read. "They are owed a debt of gratitude that cannot be repaid. Their loyalty and friendship are unwavering and their love unconditional."
