TRUSSVILLE, AL — Hewitt-Trussville Middle students are faculty are safe following a police investigation Tuesday morning into a shooting threat. Police told the Trussville Tribune that a student who complained of being bullied sent a group text threatening to "shoot the school up." The school then contacted its resource officer, WVTM-TV reported. The student's backpack and locker were searched and officers went to the student's home to verify that there were no access to weapons. Police also talked to the student's parents. "Even though 99.99 percent of these threats are just a student venting, we can't assume that and we don't. We have a procedure that we follow when something like this arises," Police Chief Eric Rush told the newspaper. Hewitt-Trussville Principal Jennifer Abney sent an email to parents after the incident notifying them of the situation, according to the NBC affiliate. The case remains under investigation.
