I was scanning the Boob tube this morning and one show stated "the truth about Pearl Harbor" I did not watch it... Almost every documentary or movie regarding that day is mostly Hollywood BS. A brief outline.. In 1939 President Roosevelt moved the Pacific Fleet from San Pedro to Pearl harbor against the advice of every Naval Senior officer, The move by the Presidents remarks was to dissuade the Japanese from War The Navy new that Pearl Harbor was undefinable, not only that, but the total increase in cost was huge.. every once of fuel had to be shipped, almost all food had to be shipped in. All major repairs to ships required a trip back to the west coast. For those that don't under stand the Military, the Hawaiian Islands were under the US Army and the Army was task to protect the island not the Navy.. That Navy ships were in port, for RR, repair, or refueling is the only thing the Navy was task with.. One Dec 7, No American Aircraft carriers were in port, thanks to Admiral Kimmil. who had deployed them for other duties. That an Army officer had been informed that un identified air craft were approaching but the office could not be bothered... Sunday morning you know... The funny situation of that is the "Radar" operator was there just practicing with the new equipment and really not on duty as such... From the Japanese side, it only took them about 8 months to devise the attack and carry it out. It was far from perfect. as the Japanese did not destroy the Oil tanks, or the submarine base. they solely after Battle ship row.. again that was not overly 100% successful, except for 2 ships the rest were repaired and ready for action within 8 months... But most never saw action until the last year of the war.. I write this outline only because I am tired of Hollywood politics and BS movie tell their "Truth" and because my Fathers youngest brother, my (uncle) lays in the hull of the USS Arizona.... He joined the Navy, when the fleet was still home ported in San Pedro, which was my families home..
