We’ll learn about: Basic safety, trail- and road rules in Utah, basic gear, basic maintenance, safe routes around town, trip planning. Drills will include efficient shifting, hand signals, turning, gaining momentum, lane positioning, navigating intersections. Please bring: Your bike, helmet, water, bike lights. Dress for the weather (we’ll talk about this during session I). We invite riders of all abilities, ages*, sizes, genders, and racial backgrounds to join us! Our goal is to teach you skills that will help you feel more comfortable navigating this town on a bike, and to have fun on a mellow, social ride. We guarantee we won’t worry about speed, and we’ll allow for plenty of time for everyone to complete the loop during session II. *Children are welcome. They need to be able to ride about 3 to 5 miles or be pulled in a trailer/ride along on a cargo bike. They need to be supervised by their guardian at all times. COVID PROTOCOL: We ask you to be conscientious of other participants. Please do not participate if you are showing any symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough, or a fever, or if you have been recently exposed to somebody infected with Covid-19. Based on current Utah State guidelines, we recommend wearing a mask during the indoor part of the clinic. Instructor: Judith Rognli Judith Rognli is our Active Transportation Specialist and a Cycling Instructor certified by the League of American Bicyclists. A Northern German native, she has ridden her bike places since kindergarten. She navigates Washington County on her Surly Big Easy Cargo Bike with her six year old son in tow. When asked whether she feels safe riding her bike around town with a child, she’ll probably tell you that ‘there’s always a bike way’ that allows her to avoid busier roads and intersections. Judith loves sharing her skills and her passion for riding with people of all ages and backgrounds. Southern Utah has it all. There are few places in the world that have the geological diversity in such close proximity. Towering sandstone cliffs, volcanoes, treeless peaks and three different deserts converge in the southern corner of this state providing the perfect riding spot for just about everything. Do you love long, scenic road rides? We got ‘em. Do you dig on techy, chunky trails that will make you question your skills? Got those, too. How about dirt roads that go on for miles, and miles, and miles and just happen to end at the Grand Canyon? Yup. From Gooseberry Mesa to the Zen Trail, the Gunlock Loop to the Kolob Terrace road, this chunk of real estate that we call home has first class riding for all styles. With a wide variety of terrain and elevations, there is never a time that we can’t ride, but when you are done pedaling there are many other attractions. Visit Zion and Bryce National park, enjoy some downtown eats or you could relax at one of the many day spas. Why Southern Utah? There’s lots of reasons. Come ride with us, we’re positive you’ll find the answer.
