Description
Jacob Wick and Shane Parish Duo w/ The Electric Nature Jacob Wick is an improviser, writer, and artist. His work is dedicated to and informed by queer feelings and queer politics. As an improviser and trumpet player, he has performed in a variety of contexts, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Kennedy Center, and the University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC). He has performed with Matana Roberts, Andrea Neumann, Gerald Cleaver, Katherine Young, Judith Hamann, Toshimaru Nakamura, and others. He has released recordings on Creative Sources, Diatribe, and Prom Night Records. His solo recording, feel, was released in 2019 on Thin Wrist Recordings. Shane Parish devotes much of his time to developing his singular and expressive voice on the guitar. A self-taught musician, he communicates through emotion, unexpected melodicism, technical whimsy, a nuanced sense of form, and rich timbral variety. He has released eight albums with his electric prog-punk band Ahleuchatistas, several solo acoustic recordings of reimagined folk music, and a number of improvised collaborations. He has released recordings on Tzadik, Cuneiform, International Anthem, Dear Life and more. The Electric Nature are a group of experimental improvisers from Athens, GA. They will be performing a set of ambient "Trance Music" for this evening's event. Describing their sound in The Wire Magazine, Byron Coley says they "combine droney multiphonics with dreamy dithering and fingerpicked meditations to good effect. The surface is nothing at all like Popol Vuh, yet they elicit some of the same emotive urges. The sound level ranges from quiet shimmer to something more like a roar, and if you think it might be more about the trip than the destination, I'd say you're on to something." Upon arrival to a performance, all guests must present a VALID ID along with a completed COVID-19 vaccination card or picture of completed card, OR proof of their negative COVID-19 test result. Vaccination cards may be presented at the door with a paper or digital copy/picture.
