Learn about the history of sled dog racing in Excelsior and plans for the 2022 Klondike Derby with the organizers of the Klondike Dog Derby. Sled dog racing is a winter pastime almost a century in the making for the Lake Minnetonka Area. Mushers have gathered to compete in this area since the 1930's. In 2022, Excelsior will be flooded once again with fluffy huskies as the Klondike Dog Derby returns. Learn more about this event and its heritage with the organizers of the Derby itself! Doors open at 6:00 pm, program begins at 7:00 pm. Limited seating available. Registration Required.* Seating is first come, first served. $5.00 suggested contribution at the door. Not an ELMHS member? Join or renew your membership here. Parking: FREE public parking is available in the lot behind the brewery. *Note there is no "member" ticket for this event. All tickets are general seating. Founded in 1972, the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Historical Society preserves the history of Lake Minnetonka and the communities of Deephaven, Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, and Tonka Bay.  The Society’s Museum and Archives are free and open to the public, and hold a large collection of historical artifacts and documents. It regularly presents programs and publishes books on topics of local historical interest.
