Description

Join Master Gardener Volunteer Kelly Hendrickson and Tim Carter in inoculating logs with shiitake spores. Each participant will get the chance to bring home their own inoculated log for shiitake mushrooms to grow in about 12 months. We will meet under the large live oak tree at the Extension Office, 615 Paul Russell Rd. Please bring a hammer and drill if you have one. Tools will also be available to borrow. The Cooperative Extension Service is a partnership between state land grant universities, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and county governments throughout the nation. In Leon County, the partnership includes the University of Florida (UF), Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU), and Leon County Government.   UF/IFAS Extension’s mission is to develop knowledge in agriculture, natural resources, and the life sciences, and to make that knowledge accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life. Leon County Extension conducts research-based educational programs in Agriculture and Food Systems, Horticulture, Family & Consumer Sciences, and 4-H Youth Development.
