Driver Charged With Impersonating Police Officer In Stafford

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A man who was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer in Stafford County was arrested last week, according to a report from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. A Stafford County deputy was off-duty on Nov. 25 when he claimed to see a Dodge Durango run a stop sign at the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and State Shop Road. The deputy said he had to swerve to avoid being hit and claimed that the Dodge Durango had flashing red and blue emergency lights. "The driver of the Durango promptly turned off the emergency lights and continued north on Jefferson Davis Highway," the sheriff's office said in their report. The deputy said that he did not recognize the driver of the Durango as a Stafford County deputy. The deputy recorded the tag information of the Durango and found that it was registered in Caroline County. The deputy also reported that the registered owner of the Durango was not a police officer and had a suspended driver's license. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office obtained arrest warrants for the owner of the Durango, who they identified as Filiberto Contreras, Jr. He was arrested last week in Caroline County and charged with reckless driving, driving suspended and impersonating a law enforcement officer. "If you want to drive a car with blue lights, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office is hiring," the sheriff's office said on Facebook.
