CHANTILLY, VA — A 29-year-old Reston woman was fatally injured after a car she was riding in struck a tree early Sunday morning in Chantilly, according to a Fairfax County Police Department blog post. Officers responded at 4 p.m. for the report of a crash on Poplar Tree Road at Leighfield Street. Estefania Cabrera of Reston was a passenger in a 2017 Toyota Highlander that was heading eastbound on Poplar Tree Road. As the car passed through the Leighfield Street intersection, it drifted off the road and struck a tree head on. Cabrera was transported to a nearby hospital for the treatment of her injuries. She was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota was also taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and remained hospitalized on Monday. Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit conducted a preliminary investigation and believe alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash. Cabrera's death is the 19th non-pedestrian related fatality this year. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543.
