Rio Grande Bridge Construction Project In Littleton: Update

LITTLETON, CO — Construction has begun on the Rio Grande Street Bridge over Slaughterhouse Gulch in Littleton, and drivers and pedestrians can expect detours, city officials said. Over the next six months, the bridge — which was first constructed in the early 1930s — is expected to be removed and replaced. The bridge will be closed to all traffic while the project is underway, the city said. Detour routes are posted. A box culvert will replace the concrete bridge and the road will be widened to match the cross-section to the north and south, city officials said. Littleton contractor American Civil Constructors was chosen to complete the work, which began in late November. Construction on the bridge is set to be completed by June, officials said. The city is assessing another project, which would place a multi-use trail in one of the cells of the box culvert and offer a connection from the Community Trail to the Mary Carter Greenway, adjacent to the South Platte River, the city said.
