Western Ave. in Lake Forest Allan Nelson Jones, 57, Lake ForestService Dec. 9 Featured Obituary: John Douglas Simpson died peacefully at home on Saturday morning, Nov. 27, 2021, in Glenview, Ill., after celebrating Thanksgiving Day surrounded by family.Born in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 7, 1934, Mr. Simpson lived in Evanston, Ill., for most of his life. He graduated from Lincolnwood, Haven and Evanston Township High School, where he met his wife of 65 years, the late-Marilyn Colleen Simpson (nee Powers). He attended school at Iowa State University, and later, DePaul University, earning a J.D., after completing night school, while enjoying being a new father.Mr. Simpson was a member of the Hill and Simpson Law firm for 43 years and served as Managing Partner for 26 years. He learned German to work with European clients and was admitted to practice before the German Court. He made more than 300 transatlantic trips to Europe for work and many other flights to Asia.Mr. Simpson served as Director of the International Trade Commission Trial Lawyers Association, Chairman of the Metropolitan Club in the former Sears Tower and in board positions with Covenant Methodist Church. He marched through Evanston for civil rights and for equal housing during the 1960s in addition to co-drafting Evanston's Open Housing Ordinance.He had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life and enjoyed dining out, hiking, rafting, camping, horseback riding, skiing, mostly in Colorado and Europe, and sailing - including crossing the Atlantic Ocean with his two sons. He loved animals and took care of many dogs, cats and horses throughout his lifetime. He was a friend to and supporter of many. He liked to "say a few words" at gatherings and always enjoyed a good laugh.
