SHOREWOOD, IL — A 36-year-old Crest Hill man was arrested last week by Shorewood police on charges of reckless driving, speeding more than 35 mph over the limit, disobeying traffic lights and aggravated fleeing and eluding the police. Shorewood Deputy Police Chief Eric Allen said officers backed off a police pursuit on Wednesday night for safety reasons involving the fleeing suspect, Darvel Jawaan Alexander. However, around 6:50 p.m. Thursday, Alexander was captured and taken into custody at the Econo Lodge in Shorewood, where he was staying, Allen said. Alexander was arrested after a Shorewood police officer spotted the vehicle that fled from him the night before, police reports show. Alexander, according to Allen, also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The Crest Hill resident was booked into Will County's Jail around 10:15 p.m. By 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Alexander was freed from custody after posting 10 percent of his $5,000 bail, jail logs show. Alexander resides in the 1300 block of the Rock Run Drive apartment units, according to jail records. As a condition of his bond, Alexander may not drive a vehicle except for employment purposes, court records indicate.
