Description
OSWEGO, IL — Traughber Junior High School was temporarily placed on lockdown Friday afternoon when two people were reportedly seen with a gun in a car outside the school, according to Oswego police.
Police arrived at the school, located at 570 Colchester Drive, around 3:06 p.m. after receiving a call regarding a suspicious car. After setting up a perimeter and searching the school, campus and surrounding area, officers found no threat, according to officials.
Police said they learned the gun — later found to be a BB gun — was actually spotted at another location, near Plainfield Road and Linden Drive, so the school lockdown was lifted. Officers remained on campus as students were dismissed, officials said.
Two teenage boys who matched the description of the suspects were found and after conducting interviews, police said they discovered what appeared to be a firearm was actually a BB gun. Police arrested a 15-year-old boy on a charge of disorderly conduct after he was thought to point the BB gun out of the car window.
The boy was referred to juvenile probation and later released to his parents. Police reported no injuries during the incident.
"Oswego Police would like to thank community members who provided information that assisted in the investigation," police said.
