JOLIET, IL — Bail has been set at $50,000 for Kevin Brown, a 60-year-old Joliet man who spat in the face of a Joliet police officer and kicked the same officer several times, according to police reports. Brown, who lives in the unit block of North Broadway Street, has been charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer. Around 12:10 a.m. Saturday, Joliet "officers came into contact with Brown who indicated that he was armed with a gun and wished to end his life," police reports show. "Brown then ran into his residence and began breaking windows from within the residence." Joliet police called crisis negotiators to the Broadway Street property to talk with Brown over the phone. A short time later, Brown agreed to leave his house, police said. "While officers were attempting to detain Brown, he spat in the face of an officer," police spokesman Dwayne English announced. "Brown then kicked the same officer multiple times." Other officers gained control of Brown, and a Joliet Fire Department ambulance took him to St. Joe's hospital for a mental health evaluation, police said. Later in the day, Brown was released from the hospital and taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility where he was booked into custody around 2:20 p.m. Saturday.
