JOLIET, IL — Laraysheo Johnson, a 26-year-old Chicago man, was arrested Monday afternoon by Joliet police on 10 criminal charges stemming from a home invasion that happened Nov. 30 in the 400 block of Grant Avenue, on Joliet's east side.
Will County prosecutors filed their criminal complaint against Johnson last Friday, and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
Johnson is accused of trying to strangle a woman he knows inside her Joliet apartment unit.
Johnson has been charged with home invasion, aggravated domestic battery, possession of a stolen vehicle, theft, two counts of criminal trespass, two counts of domestic battery, interfering with the reporting of domestic violence and criminal damage to property.
The home invasion charge states that Johnson entered the woman's residence on Grant Avenue "and remained in such dwelling place until he knew or had reason to know that one or more persons was present ... and intentionally caused injury" to the woman.
Other criminal charges state that Johnson strangled the woman, struck her in the head, grabbed her by the hair, grabbed a cellular phone out of her hand to prevent her from calling 911 and damaged the woman's door frame.
Will County Judge Art Smigielski set bail at $300,000 for Johnson.
Will County Jail logs show that there is also a temporary police hold for Johnson from the Bradley Police Department.
