ELMHURST, IL — The state does not regulate coronavirus testing businesses without laboratories on site. Nor does the county. One such site is Free Rapid & PCR Testing Elmhurst at 590 S. York St. in Elmhurst, according to the state. It is associated with the Center for Covid Control, a business that says it is has teamed up with a CDC-approved laboratory. The Elmhurst site has received 100 reviews on Google, with an average rating of 4.2 out of 5. Despite the majority of positive reviews, some people say the business is slow in returning results. They say they were promised results within one to three days, but the site took days longer than that to get answers back. In response to that criticism, the owner has given the exact same response on Google six times over the last couple of months. "Unfortunately, due to the slight increase in COVID-19 cases, our lab has received an extraordinary influx in Covid-19 tests. We are slightly backed up. However, we are working around the clock to ensure everyone will get results as fast as possible," the owner said. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused." The local testing site did not return two calls for comment last week. In response to a Patch inquiry, the state Department of Public Health said legislation would be needed for the agency to regulate coronavirus testing sites. However, it said it could conduct investigations of violations at laboratories. People who are concerned about fraud at coronavirus testing sites are urged to contact the Attorney General's Office, according to the state health department.
