ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — A recall has been issued for more than 230,000 pounds of pork products that were processed at a Michigan company for possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. Alexander & Hornung, a St. Clair Shores based company, announced the recall on Sunday, which includes 234,391 pounds of fully cooked ham and pepperoni products, according to officials. The products subject to recall bear establishment number "EST. M10125" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide and should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase, officials said. Live in St. Clair Shores? The problem was found when the company notified the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service about the positive Listeria monocytogenes results, officials said. While no illness have been reported, anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider, officials said. Listeria monocytogenes is a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women and their newborns. Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. It is treated with antibiotics.
