Kitten Rescued From Storm Drain By Fire Fighters, Humane Society

PHOENIX, AZ — After being trapped in a storm drain for more than a week, a 6-week-old kitten was rescued through teamwork between local firefighters and the Arizona Humane Society. The kitten was reportedly trapped in the drain near the intersection of 20th Street and Indian School Road in Phoenix for more than a week before he was rescued Friday by the humane society's emergency animal medical technicians, along with firefighters from Phoenix Fire Station 61. He evaded rescue for two days before being caught using a humane trap, according to a news release from the humane society. Workers at the humane society's animal trauma hospital found that the kitten was underweight, had fleas and a stomach problem. He will go to a foster home where he can get some socialization and love while he's being treated. The humane society expects he will need a few weeks of medical care to get him up to a good weight and to make sure he's healthy enough to be adopted. One of the firefighters involved in his rescue is considering adopting him.
