RIVERHEAD, NY —Two people were arrested and charged Sunday in a bust that followed complaints from the community about illegal drug activity at a Riverhead apartment, police said.
According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at 6:05 a.m. at an apartment on East Main Street. A search warrant was executed after residents reported the illegal drug activity and foot traffic to and from apartment, police said.
Joseph A. Douglas, 40, of Riverhead, is a New York State parolee who had been released from prison while serving a sentence for third-degree attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance, police said. He was a arrested and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance: narcotic drug, intent to sell, a felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance/narcotic; a felony; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and second-degree criminal use drug paraphernalia, scales, a misdemeanor, police said.
Brenda Jean Henderson, 55, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; second-degree criminal use drug paraphernalia, package, a misdemeanor; and second-degree criminal use drug paraphernalia, scales, a misdemeanor, police said.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's East End Drug Task Force, the Riverhead Police Department's detective bureau, the Riverhead Police COPE Unit, Riverhead Police K-9, and Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Unit worked together to execute the search warrant, police said.
