Description
The scientific, philosophical, and spiritual history of sleep and dreams in the Western tradition from antiquity to modern neuroscience. Esoterika Lodge No. 227, A.F. & A.M of Oregon, is delighted to host one of its very own Master Masons, Bro. Grant Moncrief, 32º, as a grand finale to the 2021 Quarterly Public Lecture series. Adding to the gravitas of the evening will be a public Officers Installation Ceremony at approximately 7:30, a rare occasion to see a core Freemasonic ritual in all its pomp and circumstance. Please join us to support our incoming line of Lodge officers for 2022. Bro. Moncrief was initiated into Freemasonry at Esoterika Lodge in 2016, and was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in 2017. He received the 32º degree of Freemasonry at the Portland Valley of the Scottish Rite in 2017. Having recently relocated to New England, Bro. Moncrief is also a member and current Junior Deacon of Fibonacci Lodge #112, Vermont, a traditional observance Lodge. Professionally, Dr. Moncrief, PsyD, is a clinical neuropsychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire. His scientific research in psychometrics, epilepsy, and substance abuse has been published in several major medical journals. He is also an accomplished musician, lifelong student of esotericism, husband, and father. Bro. Moncrief's entertaining knack for connecting concepts across multiple disciplines has manifested this evening's lecture, "Sacred Sleep & Divine Dreams: From Myth to Modern Medicine and Beyond." The presentation will provide an overview of the scientific, philosophical, and spiritual history of sleep and dreams in the Western tradition, covering themes from antiquity to the most recent discoveries in neuroscience. If you've ever pondered the interface of hard sciences and pure mysticism, this is a lecture you won't want to miss. In-Person Attendance is $10, refreshments will be provided. Please arrive at 4:30 to mingle and choose your seat. We request and appreciate your adherence to mask wearing according to State and County guidelines.
