The Alzheimer Association is here to help raise awareness about Alzheimer's and related dementia.
Communication is more than just talking and listening — it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, and body language. As the disease progresses individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia lose the ability to use words, but families can find new ways to connect.
Discover how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. Explore how effective communication during the holidays can lower caregiver stress and create an enjoyable holiday season for the person living with dementia as well as family and friends.
