Four generations of the musically inclined Moffat-Hughes family lived in the home over a span of 102 years. The Octagon House is a fine example of the novel eight-sided dwelling popular in America in the mid-1800s. Such a house was considered conducive to healthy living as light and air could enter from eight directions. Garden House Museum Tours The Garden House Museum is filled with historic items providing a visual portrayal of Hudson from the 1850s to the 1950s. Garden House tours are self-guided. Admission is $5 per person. Tours should be reserved in advance with the Octagon House Museum. The grounds also include the Carriage House, which houses the Shop at the Carriage House. The Shop at the Carriage house is open during mueum hours, and does not require a tour reservation to visit. All structures are set amid expansive, beautifully maintained gardens.
