Violence against women is a terrible problem that affects people from all countries and all walks of life. More and more women are reporting being assaulted, harassed, or generally feeling unsafe in their environments. Fortunately, there IS something you can do about it. Verbal and physical self-defense is effectiveJoin us at the Kirkland School of Oom Yung Doe, for this women led seminar. Physically you will learn some simple, but effective techniques that work well with a woman’s natural strengths as part of the SHOCK, SCREAM, and RUN self-defense strategy. These techniques can be used against a variety of different attacks from the front. You will also have the opportunity to discus the mental aspects of self-defense such as body posture, utilizing your voice, and typically being smaller than an attacker. Wear something comfortable to move around in and bring a friend! Pandemic FAQ We understand there is a lot going on right now and some uncertainty as to where we will be in the process of reopening. We believe strongly in our Women's Self-Defense programs and wanted to make them available to the community as soon as possible. Here are the precautions we are planning to take. Feel free to call or email us if you have further questions about our event. Is this lesson in person? Yes. Being able to practice the techniques against pads is an important part to building confidence and understanding with how the movement works. What about sharing equipment? Some equipment such as pads and punching dummies will need to be shared among participants. All equipment will be sanitized before and after the seminar. Hand sanitizer and disinfectant will be available. What about masks and vaccinations? We plan to follow state and CDC guidelines for masking, social distancing and vaccinations. Current guidelines are requiring masking and vaccine verification or proof of a negative Covid test within 72 hours before the event. Home tests are not sufficient for the negative Covid test. Will there be Covid questions or screening at enter? Yes, we do check temperatures and check for any Covid symptoms upon entry into our facility. These protocols will remain in place as long as the CDC and state guidelines mandate them. What if space fills up and I still want to go? If we fill up and you still want to go, add your name to the waitlist. If CDC guidelines allow, we may be able to open more spaces or offer additional sessions as we get closer to the event date. Michelle began her training in 2010 at the Kirkland school. Having taken several other hard styles of martial arts before, she originally stopped by the school because of an interest in the Kung Fu and weapons training. Once she started training, she soon saw the difference between Moo Doe and her previous martial arts experiences. Michelle became interested in teaching when she was invited to assist with a series of self-defense lesson at a local school. She discovered that she enjoyed helping students improve themselves and their understanding of martial arts and began training as an instructor.
