Description
WHC's Amram Scholar Series Presents: Dr. David Weill (Exhale). Sunday, December 19 at 10:30 am at Washington Hebrew Congregation on Macomb St. NW. The world of organ transplantation can be a dark, sometimes painful one. The reality is that one person needs to die so that someone else can have a chance to live. The people on both sides of these surgeries are mothers, teenagers, grandparents, sisters, brothers, and friends. The stories of these people, and the team of doctors that work on their transplantation surgeries, are captured in David Weill’s memoir, Exhale: Hope, Healing and a Life in Transplant. Dr. Weill was a top transplant doctor who rode the emotional rollercoaster of saving and losing lives—until it was time to step back and reassess his own life. He will join us at Temple on Sunday, December 19 at 10:30 am for a closer look at the ten years he directed the lung transplant program at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Weill will give us an inside look at the world of high-stakes medicine, the miracle of transplantation, and the battle patients endure to survive. He will share when and why he realized that he needed to step away from the front lines. About the Author: David Weill is the former Director of the Center for Advanced Lung Disease and the Lung Transplant Program at Stanford University. He is currently the Principal of Weill Consulting Group, which focuses on improving the delivery of transplant care. Dr. Weill’s writing has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Salon, Newsweek, The Chicago Tribune, STAT, USA Today, and The Washington Post. He also has been interviewed on CNN and by The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, and The Wall Street Journal.
