Talented piano & string players of The Gurwitz Youth Ambassadors & Colburn-Pledge Music Scholarship share their passion for music! This special holiday concert showcases young local San Antonio & Bexar County musicians that are either piano ambassadors for The Gurwitz International Piano Competition or Colburn-Pledge string instrument scholarship recipients. Expect some exciting classical repertoire! Ticket and Check-in Information:Please have your ticket's QR code (app, email, or print) or your name(s) ready at the door for easy entry. Seating is first-come-first-served.Have any questions about tickets? Check out our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) below.Safety Precautions:Masks are currently strongly encouraged. Extra masks will be available at entry for those needing one. Per CDC guidance, we ask that unvaccinated please wear a mask for the safety of our patrons.We will be sanitizing touch hot spots as much as possible, and will also provide sanitizers as needed. Before entry, we will be providing either a physical program book or a scannable QR code to a digital version. We ask that attendees do not leave any physical program books in the cathedral once the concert is over, for safety concerns. MBAW will follow all safety and distancing guidelines for fine arts performance halls per the State of Texas and any other measures by discretion for the ensured safety of its attendees. If the situation worsens, it is within MBAW and the Cathedral's discretion to require masks or shift the concert virtually.About the Gurwitz Youth Ambassadors:The Gurwitz International Piano Competition also encourages the development of young pianists in the greater San Antonio area. Gurwitz Youth Ambassadors are involved in community engagement efforts such as playing in schools or community groups, attending/participating in masterclasses, or speaking with students on why they chose piano. Advanced piano students 18 years or under who are interested in becoming an Ambassador are invited to apply based on the recommendation of their piano teacher. About the Colburn-Pledge Music Scholarship:Formerly under the auspices of the Colburn-Pledge Music Scholarship Foundation, this scholarship now resides under the management of Musical Bridges Around the World. The previously-named foundation began in 1985 by John Pledge with proceeds from the estates of his sister, Genevieve Pledge, and Lois Colburn, both former members of the San Antonio Symphony, for the purpose of offering tuition aid to string players residing in Texas who are preparing for careers in classical music. 133 scholarships totaling more than $99,000 have been awarded by the foundation to 72 different students. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):- Are tickets required for entry to the concert? Yes, but they are free! Seating is first-come-first-served. - How do I get a ticket? Tickets are available here and on our event calendar listing on our website. - What do I show at the door? To help our attendants, please have your ticket ready when you get there. Attendants will be ready to scan the QR code on your ticket (print, email, or app). - What if I forget to get a ticket(s) or don't have one when I get there? An attendant at the door can help you register and get in quickly and easily. If you have registered but have forgotten the ticket, an attendant can pull up your name and check you in manually. - What are the current health protocols I need to follow? Masks are currently strongly encouraged. The event organizer may make the decision to require masks at any time leading up to the event. - How do I get to the San Fernando Cathedral? Where do I park? The San Fernando Cathedral lies at the center of downtown San Antonio at: 115 Main Plaza, San Antonio, TX 78205. While there is no dedicated parking for the Cathedral, there are many close parking options. City Paystations and meters are FREE on Sundays, and you can find more info and options on our website here. There are three (3) main entrances to the Cathedral: two (2) main front (east) entrances off Main Plaza and one (1) side entrance for wheelchair-accessibility on the left (south) side. - Can I take picture(s) or video(s) at the concert? No flash photography. We ask that you limit photos or videos to a minimum during the actual performance as a courtesy to our artists. Founded in 1998, MBAW is a performing arts nonprofit focused on promoting culture, education, and tourism through free/affordable concerts by emerging musicians and artistic collaborations. Musical Bridges aims to create one-of-a-kind, multicultural performances by world-class jazz, classical, and folk musicians, in order to develop and educate new audiences.
