Description
Join us as we celebrate Kwanzaa's fourth principle Ujamaa with an evening of creative experiences. For this special Wednesday Night Live, The Gantt will celebrate Kwanzaa, highlighting its fourth principle Ujamaa (meaning cooperative economics). The celebration will include a candle-making workshop with Kathy Fogle of Happy Kat Candles, an African-inspired dance class with artist and educator Jermaine Nakia Lee, and an informational session about the history and traditions of Kwanzaa with our city’s own, Kwanzaa Charlotte. We will also have a local artisan fair, featuring an array of hand-crafted treasures for sale during the evening. Our two featured exhibitions, Container / Contained: Phil Freelon - Design Strategies for Telling African American Stories, and Visual Vanguard: An Exhibition of Contemporary Black Carolina Artists will be open for view as well. This experience is free and open to community members of all ages, and masks are required. Please keep in mind that our workshops during Wednesday Night Live are open to everyone until each workshop’s capacity is reached. To ensure equal access, we will welcome guests to the workshops on a first-come, first-served basis.
