She's legally blind and relies on her guide dog for help with everyday tasks and as a bridge to connect with others. This Sunday, she's giving back by hosting a cooking demo to support Guide Dogs for the Blind's seasonal festivities. A number of Washington County folks are in hot water for a payroll tax evasion scheme. The Department of Justice shared that David A. Katz, 45, of Tualatin, facilitated under-the-table cash wage payments to construction workers so as to help employers avoid paying payroll and income taxes. Five employers were implicated in the conspiracy, including Melesio Gomez-Rivera, 47, of Aloha and Jorge Peraza, 49, and Natallie N. Graham, 46, of Beaverton. The introduction of the omicron variant has made many of us pay closer attention to COVID-19 numbers these days. Patch reports that Washington County has a "substantial" level of coronavirus transmission as of Thursday, December 3, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The data shows 84.9 new cases per 100,000 residents between November 25 and December 1, with a positive test rate of 4.7 percent between November 23-29, which was a 1.9 percentage point higher than the preceding week. Unable to meet hiring goals and facing employee attrition, the agency announced it will temporarily reduce service for 20 of its lines. The changes start January 9.
