Description
Self-Care and The Shadow Within the context of our roles as therapists, helpers or healers the concept of self-care comes up often. We are continually admonished to set boundaries and recharge our boundaries, lest the heavy load of our healing work consumes us whole and leaves us feeling tired and worn. No one who cares for others has escaped the experience of overwhelm, the feeling of, “this is just too much”. Many of us in the helping and healing professions are naturally, almost reflexively, predisposed to putting others before ourselves – to sacrifice, to give of ourselves, all for the benefit of those under our care. Yet, beyond exercise, salt baths, and the ever-ubiquitous mindfulness programs that entice us to rest our tired minds, there lies an unconscious, hidden reality, rooted in a fundamental mistaken belief about who, as helpers and healers, we are. And when this aspect – the shadow aspect of the healer-self – remains unexamined, we can be sure that exhaustion, fatigue, resentment and despair will follow. The purpose of this seminar is to explore the hidden, shadow aspect of the healer-self, and to further investigate the question of self-care within the context of therapy and healing work. This event will focus on the following: - Exploring the fundamental mistaken belief we have about our role as healers - Examining why we, in truth, don’t want to care for ourselves, appearances and feelings notwithstanding - Exploring the dynamic of self-sacrifice within the context of our healing work, and how that impedes a fluid healing movement between healer and client - Demonstrating new ways of incorporating unitive, sacred wisdom within our daily practice. This event will incorporate discussion and insight from the following: - Radical insights from contemporary consciousness studies research - Wisdom from non-dualistic spiritual traditions, East and West - Utilizing our own inner knowing to promote a healthy balance between our personal and professional life. Attendees will: Attendees will come away with a deeper, more inclusive appreciation for themselves within the context of their helping and healing roles, and furthermore, will develop a more refined ability to be an authentic healing instrument for both themselves and others, to be, as Krishnamurti stated, “a light unto oneself”.
