Description

This dog is up for adoption at Wake County Animal Shelter – please do not flag. If you have a problem with the ad please email me so we can discuss. Leah is a 2 year old American Bully, built low to the ground and around 70 pounds, with lovely taupe-fawn colored fur, "eyeliner" marks and a gorgeous face - her photo does not do her justice! She has already been spayed so is ready to go to a new home. I'm not the original owner and not a shelter representative so the below notes are just my personal observations. Pros: She loves people and does not display dominant behavior; even on short acquaintance she'll lie down and roll to accept belly rubs. Despite being a tad overweight she does not gobble food; you can take her bowl away while it is still half full and she does not mind. They have her listed as an AmStaff on their website but she is an American Bully - her UKC pedigree is in her file although her prior owner did not register her. Her original owner indicated that she gets along with other dogs; she seems eager to play. She loves rambling walks but is an excellent house dog; if you are working at a desk she is happy to lie at your feet and doze. She'd be a great home office companion! She will go into a crate on command, stay there quietly and sleep through the night. Unlike many bully breeds she snores very little. Her original owner indicated that she was house trained as well. Cons: I would not recommend her for a home with cats - she was very eager to chase them and given her size it would be easy for her to hurt them even if her intentions were playful. Given that she's low to the ground she does have remarkable acceleration! She does pull on a leash but responds to correction. She is somewhat anxious in the car but doesn't freak out or get sick; she just curls up (preferably with her head on your leg) and waits for it to be over. Once you arrive at your destination she bounds out and is tail waggingly happy to see new things and meet new people. My guess is that once you start taking her on more car rides she will associate it with happy experiences and get over the anxiety. This isn't really a con, just a perception thing - when I first met her at the pound she was very tense and made worried mumbling noises that someone might think were growls. I went into her cage, sat on the floor and she came over slowly and sat right next to me. She wanted a lap but would not fit :) I hope someone will give this gorgeous girl a home, she really is special! Her reference number is 226561 and the fee is $95. She is spayed, up to date on shots and micro-chipped. Adoptions at Wake County are in-person at this location: 820 Beacon Lake Dr, Raleigh, NC 27610 Adoption Floor: Noon–6 p.m., seven days a week
