Assistant Yard Manager Job Description Summary The Assistant Yard Manager is responsible for performing the following duties and responsibilities while developing and maintaining a positive culture of customer service, employee health & safety, and a team environment among all employees. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Customer Service:  Proactively and professionally greet customers as they come on-site to determine their needs. Assist or direct them accordingly.  Assist customers in loading or off-loading their equipment. This may include operating a forklift, jumping a battery, airing up a tire, or other assistance as required. Assist the Yard Manager in managing this process, particularly in his/her absence.  Manage all customer inventories between sales. This may include developing a complete and accurate list of items remaining in the yard, determining the status of each of these items, and contacting customers to coordinate removal, re-consignment, and storage options.  Coordinate with sales, administrative, and yard staff to get all delivered and re-consigned items Write up that may be more easily stolen, staging equipment that will be re-consigned, and/or notifying customers of what their storage options are.  Customer service is your number one priority. Administration:  Follow established procedures in marking all items delivered to the yard so that it is clear who each piece belongs to.  Follow established procedures in making sure that each item removed from the yard is paid for (or otherwise cleared to go), that we have all proper paperwork (BOL’s, etc), and that the item(s) being removed are the correct ones.  Inventory and order all yard supplies in a timely manner.  Timely order and call off all required rental items. Loss Prevention:  At the end of each day, make sure all Vantage Auctions equipment is properly and securely put away and that all doors and gates are locked.  Check the premises each morning. Immediately report any suspicion of trespassing, theft, or vandalism.  Repair fences as required.  Provide assistance as needed to our in-house “Crowd Control” supervisor and staff.  Assist as needed in supervising our “Security” vendor.  Maintain fire extinguishers and coordinate annual certification.  Follow and help administer all Vantage Auctions & OSHA regulations regarding workplace safety and the health and welfare of Vantage Auctions employees and their customers. Yard & Equipment Maintenance & Repair:  Maintain and repair Vantage Auctions equipment as required. Document as required by Vantage Auctions and OSHA.  Perform minor repair work on customer equipment as needed. Follow established procedures to document this work so that costs can be timely & properly charged.  Keep the yard clean and professional looking. This includes cleaning up trash & other debris, weed control, and landscape/irrigation maintenance & repair. Other:  Contribute to the vision, goals, and objectives of the company.  Be a reliable and punctual employee.  Comply with company policies and safety regulations.  Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the previously stated duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to succeed in this position. Some secondary education or equivalent work experience is preferred. Experience: A qualified candidate will have one to three years of experience in any industry where customer service, teamwork, and safety are of primary concern. One year of experience operating a forklift is also required. Skills: Detail-oriented, ability to multi-task, self-motivated, good time management, and the ability to foster teamwork are the skills absolutely necessary to succeed as Yard Coordinator. Bi-lingual Spanish and moderate computer skills are preferred. Physical Demands: The ability to meet multiple, difficult, and aggressive deadlines is part of this position. Long hours and weekend work are therefore required on occasion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, and sit. They are required to use their hands to finger, handle, maneuver, or feel objects, tools, or controls. They must be able to reach with their hands and arms. They also must be able to see well, either naturally or with correction, have good peripheral vision, hear well, either naturally or with correction, and effectively communicate directly to others. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Other: Candidate must have a valid CA driver’s license (or ability to obtain one within 10 days from hire). The candidate must also successfully pass a pre-employment drug test. The ability to work flexible hours and travel locally is required. WORK ENVIRONMENT Most of the work that the Yard Coordinator performs is outdoors. As such, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. This can include temperatures ranging from below freezing to 120 degrees F. It also includes, wind, rain, dust, and other naturally occurring weather phenomena.
