Description
Our beloved Brother Kenneth Walter Hill passed way on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Kenneth Walter Hill, a legendary United States Air Force Veteran, was born and raised in Portsmouth, VA. He enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after high school graduation and entered the field of electronics. He was one of the first African American airmen in the 556th Strategic Missile Squadron and Strategic Air Command. He later earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Merritt College, Oakland, CA; an Associate Degree in Supervisory Management from Foothill College, Los Altos, CA; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from the University of San Francisco. He spoke candidly about his journey, starting with growing up during the era of racial segregation and the launch of historic civil right's movements, through years of varied experiences. He developed what he described as "...A fire in my soul to reach back and give back to my community." That fire burned for over five decades. As a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, he was active with Nu Tau Lambda chapter but supported any program associated with Go to High School, Go to College and a Voteless People is a Hopeless People. In fact, he had his personal mailing list for voter alerts, the Holiday Ball in San Diego and the Annual Orange County Black Chamber of Commerce Banquet. He was a supporter of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. Ken was a member of the NAACP, and ACLU organizations. He was actively involved in strategic fundraising and advocacy to assure the sustainability of the Historic Black Library/Museum in Portsmouth, VA. Ken traveled with his wife, June to nearly one hundred African American Museums throughout the country.
