Description

A five-week, comprehensive wine course for the curious oenophile! The Wine Goddess is thrilled to introduce the Wine Goddess Academy: Level One! It's a five-week, comprehensive “vine to wine” educational series where participants delve deep into the grape and all its glory. The series will culminate with a 50 question exam, and students will graduate with both a dangerous amount of wine knowledge, and a certificate of merit (which can be referenced on a resume, or simply hung on the refrigerator for bragging rights). While all experience levels are welcome, this course is not for the faint of heart: a serious interest in wine is of paramount importance!Classes will be held at the store (702 Main Street, Evanston) on Monday evenings, January 10th-February 7th, from 7 pm to 9 pm. The course fee is $395. Week One (Monday 1/10/22): The Sensory Evaluation of Wine. Learn to identify wine’s aromas and flavors with a strategic plan of attack! Week Two (Monday 1/17/22): From Vine to Wine: How Wine is Made. We’ll talk climate, soil, vineyard management, harvest, crush, and fermentation. Week Three (Monday 1/24/22): The Major White Grapes . We’ll taste textbook examples of Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Viognier and Chenin Blanc. Week Four (Monday 1/31/22): The Major Red Grapes. The diplomatic answer to the previous week’s topic, we’ll taste textbook examples of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Sangiovese, and Tempranillo. Week Five (Wednesday 2/7/22): Food and Wine Pairing, Exam. We’ll first get the 30 minute test out of the way, and then enjoy ourselves learning the basic tenets of food and wine pairing by evaluating the effects of salty, sour, bitter, sweet and umami. Things to note: Proof of Covid vaccination is required to participate. There is a one-week cancellation policy before the start of the course; no refunds will be given after January 3rd. We are within two blocks from both the Main Street Metra and the Main Street El stop
