We look forward to seeing your art, share your final pieces with us by using #KFZCraftKit. To end the holiday season, we will be creating Kwanzaa bracelets. Kwanzaa is a holiday that was created in 1966 by Maulana Karenga, a major figure in the Black Power Movement in the 1960’s and 70’s. Its purpose is to connect African Americans to their Afrikan roots, and to celebrate outside of the norms of the dominant society. It is celebrated for 7 days straight at the end of December, going from December 26th to January 1st. Each day is celebrated by focusing on one of the 7 statutes of Kwanzaa: unity (umoja), self-determination (kujichagulia), collective work and responsibility (ujima), cooperative economics (ujamaa), purpose (nia), creativity (kuumba), and faith (imani).
