After sending her brother to an out-of-state sober living house in 2017, Anchor Founder, Surina Meena Pillay opened Anchor Treatment Center on August 3, 2018, offering faith-based addiction counseling. It soon became a goal to open a sober living house in Tallahassee, where she could help others, like her brother, by offering them a temporary place to live in a supportive, positive environment as they got their lives back on track. She came closer to that goal earlier this year after Anchor partnered with DJ Demp on another project where they distributed over 10,000 face masks during Anchor’s Community Mask Initiative at the beginning of the pandemic. DJ Demp is an internationally known DJ and the only DJ to have an official week honoring him for 24 years in a row. Demp Week is a week-long, well planned event that always includes community outreach. Anchor Recovery Foundation partnered with DJ Demp for the Annual Fundraising Banquet to open “Demp House” Anchor Recovery Sober Living with the mission of providing alternatives to individuals battling addiction. We believe in recovery, as alcohol and drug addiction cost lives, money and community solidarity. Anchor Recovery currently has a waiting list with residents in need of our sober living program. Our mission is to help them succeed and need your support to do so. Anchor Sober Living residents will have real-world responsibilities and be held accountable in a structured sober living environment. Your contributions and donations pledged will be used to help Anchor Recovery Foundation open "Demp House" Sober Living House in February 2021. All contributions and donations are tax-deductible.
