Join us in the Cunningham Gallery for a photography self portrait workshop led by photographer Mary Bel!
What to know: Guests should bring their own camera if possible, a few will be made available on a first come basis.
Artist Mary Bel is a fine art photographer based in Orlando who explores self-expression and narratives through self-portraiture. Join Mary Bel for this workshop and learn from her as she demonstrates lighting methods, prop and pose choices, and of course photography! You too will come away with a suite of your very own digital self-portraits.
Mary Bel produces composites and crafts bold, emotional, gripping, edgy and ambiguous images. She finds beauty in darkness and has a great admiration for art, expressionism, and storytelling. Mary is very passionate about exploring and creating self-portraits to show others how their potential can be limitless. Mary Bel is greatly inspired by the baroque paintings of Michelangelo Caravaggio and surrealist painters like René Magritte, Frida Kahlo, and Pablo Picasso. She creates self-portraits that look painterly to depict various stories of emotions and concepts of self-expression, layered with her own personal growth. Her vivid imagination has evolved, by being an observer of her environment. Mary states, “I create images of what I wish, or imagine happening, and manipulate it into my own world through my work as a photographer and storyteller. In turn, I like to show my process, as a way to inspire others”. Mary Bel is a graduate Fordham University in NYC where she holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. As a single mother of a teenage son and daughter, she stays very occupied while working a full-time job at Darden Restaurants headquarters.
