Many shelters in and around Charleston are still working to find forever homes for dozens of cats, dogs and other adorable critters coming through. About 6.5 million pets and other companion animals are taken in each year by animal rescue organizations nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
