PIERCE COUNTY, WA — The National Park Service is looking for answers after a damaging break-in at Mount Rainier National Park earlier this week. According to the park service, a burglar (or burglars) broke into the park sometime between 3 p.m. on Nov. 28 and 11 a.m. the following morning, by busting through a closed gate on SR-410 at the intersection of Crystal Mountain Boulevard. Once inside, the culprits continued into the park's White River area. Investigators say there, they damaged multiple park facilities, destroyed and stole government property. Despite the damages, the White River Campground remains open, according to the park service's website. The National Park Service's Investigative Services Branch says it is not ready to release further details about the incident or their investigation, but the agency is asking anyone who may know something about this break-in to come forward. Anyone with info about the break-in and theft is asked to contact the NPS Investigative Services Branch by calling or texting the ISB Tip Line 888-653-0009, emailing [email protected], or by submitting a tip through its website. Tips can be submitted anonymously.
