(Pro-Active Community Enforcement) has aimed to curb retail theft and related crimes, crimes of opportunity that can target shoppers, and traffic and parking-related problems as part of the Town of Bedford's efforts to be a welcoming place for business and holiday shopping. Multiple marked and unmarked cruisers will be regularly stationed at the plaza on Great Road near Shawsheen Road and the Bedford Marketplace at 160 Great Road, as well as at other locations. Several shoplifters have been arrested over the past eight years thanks to the increased police patrols and quick response times of Bedford Police officers Police officers also walk through shopping centers to create a visible presence and level of comfort and security for everyone heading out in search of gifts this season. "Those of us at the Bedford Police Department know the holidays can be stressful as well as fun, so we want to help make the shopping experience as welcoming and worry free as possible," said Lt. Richard Vitale. "Residents are reminded to do their part by being aware of their surroundings and locking their car doors. We want everyone to feel safe knowing there are officers in the area to assist with any issues that arise."
