STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A fight at North Stafford High School on Thursday afternoon elicited a police response, according to a report from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said that criminal charges and school discipline will be administered.
The fight broke out around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, the sheriff's office said in an update posted to Facebook. "The incident had calmed down as the students were separated, when suddenly one student assaulted another student," the sheriff's office wrote. "Additional deputies responded to the scene to assist."
Authorities said that the involved students were juveniles. In accordance with Virginia law, the sheriff's office has not released the names of any of the students involved in the fight.
The sheriff's office also noted that no serious injuries were reported in the fight. "Criminal charges, as well as school discipline, will be administered," the sheriff's office said.
In an update posted to Facebook, authorities also disputed a rumor that a firearm was involved in the fight, noting that there was no evidence that a gun was displayed in the incident.
"The Stafford Sheriff's Office has a strong relationship with the schools and we will continue working to provide a safe environment for students to learn," the sheriff's office said. "The safety of students and staff is of paramount importance to our office."
