STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — Stafford County deputies used a taser on a man on a Fredericksburg Regional Transit bus on Friday afternoon, the sheriff's office said. Officials alleged that the man claimed to have a gun in his pocket. Deputies responded to the bus in the parking lot of the Stafford County Courthouse around 12:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. A report from the sheriff's officesaid they learned of an "unruly" man on the bus who did not pay for his bus fare and refused to leave. "When deputies arrived on scene, the subject refused to leave the bus and claimed to have a gun in his pocket," Major Shawn Kimmitz of the sheriff's office said. "Deputies held the perimeter around the bus and a brief lockdown was issued for the courthouse and the surrounding area." Kimmitz said that deputies continued to speak with the man in an effort to negotiate. "The deputies were able to get an opportunity to use a taser and take the suspect into custody," Kimmitz said. Authorities identified the suspect as a 30-year-old man. The man was then taken to a nearby hospital. The man has not been publicly identified, and the sheriff's office did not say what charges would be brought against him.
