Opening for Drummer in Berkeley Jazz Workshop

Events

Berkeley CA

08 December, 2021

Description

We are looking for an experienced drummer to fill out an "advanced" jazz combo that meets Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. The material ranges from standards to bebop, brazilian, afro-cuban, and modern jazz pieces. These ensembles provide a place to get some experience, to meet other stir-crazy musicians, to play with a good rhythm section, and to make all the mistakes you want. We meet at a space in N. Berkeley where there's a piano, a P.A., music stands, and tolerant neighbors. We've been in action for more than thirty years. It's a great place to work on your skill set. The fee charged (140. monthly) covers rent on the space, and some low-key but useful coaching. A typical ensemble is six or seven pieces (piano, guitar, drums, bass, and two or three soloists). Openings come up for all the chairs at one time or another: It's always worth checking in. To get more info, or to stop by & listen, e-mail us or call Joe at . Also, we're on the web: berkeleyjazz.com * * * Clark Suprynowicz has worked professionally for years in parallel to the jazz workshops. A former student of bassist Dave Holland, he’s played a glorious array of every imaginable music since moving to the Bay Area, including a memorable recording date with Tom Waits. Alto player Joe Hartnett, who also directs the Berkeley Jazz Workshops, graduated from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, where he studied under Reggie Workman, Andrew Cyrille, and many other legends. He has performed professionally across the country in many different situations and styles.
