High: 52 Low: 36. Here are the top stories in Salt Lake City today: Far-right groups in Utah like the Proud Boys are holding a 'Kyle Rittenhouse appreciation rally' in Salt Lake City on Saturday. The rally bills itself as a second amendment and Constitutional rights event that is also a dessert potluck and canned food drive, but with more guns. Of note, the Proud Boys are classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. (Salt Lake Tribune) Women's equality in Utah is ranked dead last β€” again. Wallet Hub, the personal-finance website noted for its various rankings on a number of topics is often a favorite of Utah's governor to promote when the state ranks high for something positive, but it's not the only site to dub the Beehive State with this regrettable distinction. (Deseret News) Scientists are already testing for the omicron variant in Utah. This is not to say they've seen Omicron in Utah yet, but it's a proactive testing measure on positive COVID-19 tests in Utah to use genetic sequencing to detect if any of those positive cases are the new variant. (ABC 4) A new lawsuit over special education access was filed against Salt Lake City School District. The parents of two elementary students would like their children to receive special education services within the neighborhood school boundary where they reside instead of being assigned to a farther away "hub" school where the district consolidates special needs students. (KUTV 2News) A boom of new restaurants suggests Salt Lake is on its way to becoming the next culinary capital. Long overlooked as a cultural hub in its own right, people are seeming to notice Salt Lake City's gastronomic and cosmopolitan offerings, attracting attention from restaurateurs of larger cities. The reason? In a phrase, exploding population growth.
