Press release from City of Fort Worth: December 03, 2021 In February of 2020, the Fort Worth Public Library debuted Amplify817.org, a music streaming service exclusively featuring Fort Worth artists, with the support of the Fort Worth Public Library Foundation and Hear Fort Worth. Since then, the platform has grown its catalog of artists to now feature more than 50 unique Fort Worth musicians, bands and performers. "We love showcasing the diversity of the sounds of our city," said music librarian Rita Alfaro. "We're also finding more ways to support our artists by hosting our Off the Record YouTube show, partnering on concerts and even hosting artist mixers." It was at a recent Amplify 817 mixer that Michael Asbill from Arts Fort Worth and Alfaro agreed on a unique project of mutual support and promotion. Choosing from the current selection of artists, Arts Fort Worth would create a unique playlist to be featured and promoted on Amplify817.org. In addition to making the playlist available for anyone to stream 24/7, Arts Fort Worth will air the playlist during show openings at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. "It's really a win-win when members of the arts community in Fort Worth can support and promote one another in such a fun way," Alfaro said. The Arts Fort Worth playlist, like all music on Amplify 817, is available for commercial-free streaming from any internet browser on any device. The selection features 15 artists with 24 tracks with a range of genres including hip-hop, Spanish jazz, rock, pop, rap and R&B. Founded in 1963 as the Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant County, Arts Fort Worth is a nonprofit organization with the mission to promote, nurture and support the arts in Fort Worth. Arts Fort Worth administers a competitive grants program, manages the Fort Worth Public Art program and operates what was formerly known as the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, a dynamic arts complex with theaters, galleries, studios and office suites, on behalf of the City of Fort Worth. Amplify 817 accepts new artists to the platform twice a year with open calls for entries in January and June. The Fort Worth Public Library is looking to expand more Amplify 817 elements to include an upcoming eight-part concert series at Tulips Fort Worth and invest in another year of programming Off the Record, an artist interview and performance program airing on YouTube. Amplify 817 and the Fort Worth Public Library proudly pay artists upfront for their streaming rights thanks to the financial support from the Fort Worth Public Library Foundation. The Library continues supporting music entrepreneurship by paying for all appearances in Library programs and providing additional networking opportunities.
