Press release from City of Fort Worth:
December 03, 2021
The Tarrant County Homeless Coalition will conduct its annual Homeless Persons' Memorial Service at 9 a.m. Dec. 21 at the Union Gospel Mission's chapel, 1321 E. Lancaster Ave.
The Homeless Coalition is collecting names for the memorial. If you know someone who died in 2021 who was currently or formerly homeless, email Audrey Klein. Include as much of this information as possible: first and last name, date of birth, date of death, veteran status and a photo. Indicate whether the person was housed or homeless at the time of death.
On National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day – commemorated annually since 1990 on or about Dec. 21, the first day of winter and longest night of the year – communities across the country come together to remember those who have died without stable housing, to reflect on the inhumanity of homelessness and to call for policy changes to ensure that no life is lived or lost in homelessness. Each event is unique to its community, but the commemorations often include reading of names, candles, prayers, personal remembrances, marches and moments of silence.
