SAN RAMON, CA -- Earlier this week, patrons at two busy local malls came back to their cars to find a note saying "If I were a thief... you would be a victim!" But the notes weren't just put there by any regular concerned citizen. They were placed by representatives of the San Ramon Police Department.
Earlier this week, the Community Relations Crime Prevention Unit and some SRPD volunteers were out distributing flyers on potential victim vehicles in two busy shopping centers. The goal was to look inside vehicles to see if valuables (purses, phones, backpacks, packages, etc.) were left in plain sight making an easy target for a would-be thief.

"Don't become a target, remove valuables from your car," San Ramon Police said in a statement. "If you must carry valuables, remember to secure them in the trunk prior to arriving at your destination."
